The difference between motivation and determination

The subject of being motivated and being determined is something that people tend to be confused with…

Motivation is what gets you going. It’s that daily spark, that daily ignition that changes the way you think about a situation. It gets you up off the couch, makes you take the first step in doing what you want to do. Gets rid of the fear of failure and the chance that something may go wrong with what you are about to do

Motivation is watching someone who may be your hero or your role model on television and wanting to emulate what they do with your life, it inspires you, it motivates you to take things to the next level.

Now…

Determination – Determination is what keeps you going once that spark has been caused by the motivation. Determination is what keeps you going through the hard times, the thing that really drives you through the times when you think you can’t go on anymore. The times when all you want to do is give up and quit because things may not be going your way. Determination makes you dig deep and give it all you’ve got to the stage where you give every fibre of your being to make something work. And not just work a bit, really work, really thrive and really succeed in what you are trying to do.

If you are determined, you WILL NOT give up or quit no matter how hard it gets. Motivation hits the switch when you wake up and determination keeps you going throughout the day when it gets hard.

Motivation is being motivated to take part in a marathon.

Determination is taking part in the marathon, breaking your ankle half way through then crawling on your hands to the finish line.

Put both of those attributes together and you cannot lose…
